Norman Young

Founder & Executive Director

Norman has worked in healthcare software for over 25 years. He started out writing medical imaging software in the early days of digital radiology. Driven by a passion to make such tools widely available, he founded ClearCanvas in 2005, an open source imaging informatics company whose products continue to be used around the world to this day. His work at ClearCanvas was recognized by the American College of Radiology in 2021 when he received the ACR Foundation’s Global Humanitarian Award, for his contributions to radiology around the world. Following the acquisition of ClearCanvas by Synaptive Medical in 2014, he continued to lead a team in developing both informatics and MRI software.

Through both personal experience and seeing friends struggle with fragmented medical records, Norman recognized a deeper issue: When patients can’t access or make sense of their health information, conversations with care providers break down—and care suffers as a result. He founded CareChorus Health Foundation to address this challenge. Drawing on decades of experience in healthcare software design and development, he is building not just tools, but a movement—one that helps patients understand their records, fosters clearer conversations, and improves care coordination. The goal: a system where patients are heard, information flows, and care works as a team.
